Google Pay now lets you send digital gift cards to people on the app

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Google Pay has partnered with Qwikcilver to allow you to purchase and send virtual gift cards
  • You can choose from more than 150 online and offline brands

Google Pay has introduced digital gift cards on its platform in partnership with Pine Labs-owned company Qwikcilver. This will allow you to send virtual gift cards from more than 150 online and offline brands, across 1500 cities to people in India in real-time. These brands include Flipkart Gift Card, Uber E-Gift, Amazon Pay Gift Card, and Google Play Gift Code, etc.

Qwikcilver has listed its consumer brand Woohoo on Google Pay’s Spot Platform, which enables merchants to create their experience within the app. Through this partnership, Google Pay may increase its offline retail as users will get an option to purchase virtual gift cards from offline stores as well.

You can send a virtual gift card on Google Pay by searching Woohoo on the app and choosing a card from the store. Alternatively, you can also access the gift card store under the Business tab.

Once purchased, you can send this digital gift card directly through the Woohoo virtual store over an email or SMS. You will then be eligible to get up to Rs. 500 cash back on the transaction.

Qwikcilver says that it powers every nine out of 10 gift cards in India and the top three gifting categories include e-commerce, grocery, and fashion.

For those unaware, Google Pay’s Spot Platform was launched last year to enable merchants to set up their Spot on Google Pay – a digital storefront that they can create. It is easily discoverable both online as well as through a physical spot.
