- BSNL is working on a JioFiber-like Triple Play Plan offering three services in one package.
- BSNL will be offering broadband, landline and cable TV in one package.
- BSNL’s service is expected to be initially available in the Vizag region.
There’s no doubt that Reliance soon-to-be-launched JioFiber has created quite a buzz in the broadband and DTH market. Even though the prices and plans are still in the dark, JioFiber is expected to offer high-speed data along with DTH services at reasonable prices. And once everything is out of the bag on September 5, it is expected that JioFiber could see massive demand similar to what Jio saw back in 2017. And hence, Jio’s rivals will definitely want to do something about it in a bid to retain their customers. BSNL is possibly the first one to take action against this threat.
As noticed by Telecom Talk on Andhra Jyoti (a local newspaper), BSNL is working along with local cable TV operators in the Vishakapatnam region to offers a three-in-one service similar to Jio’s JioFiber subscription. The report states that BSNL is in talks with local cable TV operators and is willing to merge for offering it broadband and landline connections along with the cable TV connections. And for offering this, BSNL will use an upgraded infrastructure similar to JioFiber.
For offering the three-in-one service, BSNL will be offering a single optical fiber cable to the customer’s house. Similar to JioFiber, a single optical fiber cable will offer all the three services. The same connection will be used for the cable TV connection along with the home broadband connection as well as the landline service.
Similar to JioFiber’s setup, BSNL and the cable TV operators will provide an ONT device to unify all the three services. BSNL will primarily look after the broadband and landline services whereas the cable TV operators will look after the DTH operations. Hence, the set-top box will be offered by the cable TV operator.
BSNL 3-in-1 service expected pricing and availability
There’s no information about the pricing but it is expected that BSNL could go for predatory pricing to tackle JioFiber’s offering. JioFiber plans will start from as low as Rs 700 per month and it is expected that BSNL could be looking to undercut JioFiber with lower prices and offering all three services clubbed together in one bundle.
As for the availability, BSNL is right now expected to launch this is the Vizag region and in the coming days could slowly expand to the rural and semi-urban markets where JioFiber will take some time to reach..
