Idea Cellular announced that it will begin its VoLTE 4G services starting May 2 in six circles: Maharashtra and Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Idea has become the fourth telecommunications operator in India to start its VoLTE services after Vodafone, Reliance Jio and Airtel.
Idea said that VoLTE’s services will greatly facilitate the use among its subscribers, since it will provide them with an uninterrupted 4G Internet service while making a voice call. To guarantee uninterrupted calls, Idea will implement the Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) that will automatically route users to 2G / 3G services each time they leave their 4G network.
VoLTE services can be accessed on all 4G phones using a SIM Idea 4G. Customers who already use Idea that have compatible 4G phones will be automatically updated to the service.
In a press release, Idea Cellular mentioned that VoLTE will be available on the Honor 5C, Honor 6X, Honor 7X, Honor View 10, Honor 9 Lite and Honor 9i phones. Over the Air (OTA) updates will soon be released for Xiaomi Redmi 4, Samsung J7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Vivo V7.
Idea customers, when making the first VoLTE call, will get 10 GB of free data in 48 hours and the customer’s existing voice rates will be applied to VoLTE calls.
“The launch of Idea VoLTE is a testament to our commitment to digitally connecting customers and a great milestone in Idea’s mobility journey, our goal is to provide a better and richer call quality experience to our customers through this revolutionary new technology, “Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular.
