Just Agra residents can offer namaz inside Taj Mahal: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on July 9 rejected a request challenging the Agra authority’s request suspending non-inhabitants of the city from offering Friday prayers at a mosque in the Taj Mahal complex.

A bench of Justices A K Sikri & Ashok Bhushan said that “the Taj Mahal is one of the 7 wonders of the world and individuals have a few different mosques to offer their prayers.”

The appeal to have challenged the January 24, 2018 request go by the ADM (Additional District Magistrate) (City) Agra which said that the individuals who are not inhabitants of Agra, would not be permitted to enter the mosque situated at the Taj Mahal to offer customary prayers on Fridays on the grounds of security.

Candidate Syed Ibrahim Hussain Zaidi, president of Taj Mahal Masjid Management Committee, Agra, told the bench that few voyagers visit Agra consistently and the request of ADM (Additional District Magistrate) (City), Agra controlling them from offering their prayers at the mosque inside the Taj Mahal was unlawful & self-assertive.
