The committee came up with the new set of rules from June 2018.
Here is the entire list of the proposed passport changes in 2018:
1. The last page of the Passport will not have residential information
As per the latest update, MEA is thinking about eliminating printing the last page of the passport that has the residential information of the person. These details will not be there in the passport but will remain in the government database.
All passports have a barcode since 2012, which after being scanned gives all the information. This measure is taken to not to reveal much information than required. But, the existing passports will be the same till the expiry date.
2. Colour of the passport might change
As of now, passports in India are issued in three colours:
Instead of the blue, the ECR type will soon have passports issued in orange colour so that it makes it easy during immigration checks.
The CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems Project) will be associated with Ministry of External Affairs and will replace the traditional physical police verification to online verification. This measure is taken to reduce the processing time for the passports.
